In the face of ongoing political upheavals, Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu PF, continues to spin a web of propagandist illusions, starkly contrasted by the grim reality unfolding in the recent by-elections. Despite their relentless narrative of advancing strongholds, the facts on the ground elucidate a narrative of failure and denial, a blatant refusal to acknowledge the crisis engineered and exacerbated under their watch.

The crumbling economic structure has catalysed a wave of unemployed youth, now morphed into online agitators for the ruling party. Their task is simple yet disheartening: to applaud an elderly statesman whose leadership is evidently lacking in vision and tangible solutions. However, beneath the cheers and online applauds lies a tale of electoral deceit and manipulation, seemingly endorsed by a compliant electoral commission, whose allegiance to truth appears to waver.

Believing in the progress touted by the beleaguered Zanu PF reflects a misguided trajectory of thought, akin to a camel aspiring to fit into a diminutive tent. The grand claims of advancement echo hollow against the backdrop of chaos, a chaos birthed and nurtured by an illegitimate reign of power. The metaphor of a weary forty-year-old donkey mercilessly burdened resonates with the current state of the nation, cruelly pushed beyond its limits by the corrupt echelons of Zanu PF.

The concept of substitution seems lost on the blinded followers of Zanu PF, whose children are now entangled in a web of poor education and fruitless party rallies. The narrative of a liberation struggle fed to them remains but a fictional tale, a far cry from the neocolonial shackles tightening around Zimbabwe’s neck.

Our metaphorical donkey’s plight symbolises the harsh reality faced by citizens denied basic public services and welfare. This oppressed populace continually witnesses the party’s shift towards self-enrichment, leaving the wellbeing of the nation in the lurch.

The central, haunting question emerges from this quagmire: How can a party, evidently failing and plunging the state into paralysis, manage to woo a population yearning for change? Why would citizens, subjected to years of neglect and terror, entertain the thought of supporting their oppressors? These aren’t mere questions; they are glaring, thunderous elephants in the room demanding scrutiny and action.

The narrative spun by Zanu PF unravels, thread by thread, with each passing day, exposing not only the mismanagement ingrained within its core but also the desperate need for a robust, innovative opposition. As the smokescreen of propagandist illusions slowly dissipates, the call for a brighter, stable Zimbabwe reverberates across the nation, echoing the aspirations of the oppressed, longing for a dawn of transparency, accountability, and ultimately, a rejuvenated political landscape.
